Tezzbuzz Desk- The impact of the continuous increase in the prices of petrol and diesel in the country is now clearly visible on the everyday life of the people. In the coming days, ordering food online may also prove costly.
According to reports, increased fuel prices may impact the costs of food delivery and quick commerce companies like Swiggy and Zomato. Due to this, there is a possibility of increase in delivery charges.
Delivery partners can ask for more payment
According to the report of Elara Capital, due to cost of fuel, gig workers and delivery partners may demand more payment. This can have a direct impact on the delivery economics of companies.
However, the report also says that companies can handle this impact to some extent by imposing additional charges on customers and bearing some part themselves.
How much can the expenses increase on each order?
According to the report, the average delivery cost of a quick commerce order is around Rs 35 to Rs 50, whereas for food delivery, the cost is estimated to be around Rs 55 to Rs 60 per order.
According to estimates, if the share of fuel in the delivery cost is considered to be around 20 percent, then on every order around Rs 9 to 10 is spent only on fuel. The recent 4 per cent increase in fuel prices may add an additional burden of around 40 to 50 paise on each order.
If petrol becomes more expensive then problems will increase
It is feared in the report that if the prices of petrol and diesel increase further in the coming time, its impact may become more serious. If fuel prices rise by around Rs 10 per litre, the cost per order could increase by Rs 1 to Rs 1.2. This is also likely to increase pressure on companies’ earnings and profits.
There may be an impact on customers’ pockets
Experts believe that if fuel prices continue to rise, food delivery apps may increase delivery fees, platform fees or other charges in the future.
In such a situation, ordering food at home may be a little more expensive than before. However, companies are currently trying to limit this impact so that the number of customers is not affected much.
