Kolkata: As soon as it assumed power in West Bengal, the new BJP government led by Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari has started taking many big and tough decisions one after the other. In this context, the state government has taken a very big step and canceled the existing OBC list of West Bengal. The government has now decided to determine the eligibility for OBC status afresh by forming a new inquiry panel.

While giving information about this decision, State Cabinet Minister Agnimitra Paul made it clear that this decision of the government has been taken completely as per the old order of the Calcutta High Court. Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari’s cabinet has taken a big and tough decision to exclude 77 communities from the OBC reservation list. In the cabinet meeting, the proposal for this major amendment in the OBC list has been given the green signal.

High Court’s order approved in cabinet meeting

This meeting of the state cabinet is being discussed the most at present, from the political circles of West Bengal to the general public. On Monday, an important cabinet meeting was called in Nabanna (State Secretariat) under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari. In this meeting, it was mainly agreed to follow the orders of the High Court and the proposal to amend the OBC list was approved. After this move of the Cabinet, now it is considered certain that there will be a major reshuffle in the existing OBC list of the state.

The existing OBC list will not be completely ineffective.

Cabinet Minister and Municipal Minister Agnimitra Paul called a press conference in Nabanna after the end of the meeting on Monday. During this, he announced many important decisions taken by the government. While clarifying the situation before the public and media, he said that the existing list will not be completely ineffective. Rather, the entire OBC list will be reconsidered in depth and it will be examined who is eligible to come under the ambit of this reservation and who is not. For this reason, a special inquiry panel is being formed which will help in preparing a fresh list after examining every aspect.
