Business Desk- Aadhaar Card Free Update: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has given big relief to lakhs of Aadhaar card holders. Notably, UIDAI has extended the deadline for free online document update service on ‘myAadhaar’ portal by one year..

Aadhaar card holders can now update their identity and address documents online completely free of cost till June 14, 2027. Let’s take a look at its details.

Earlier, the facility of free Aadhaar update was available till June 14, 2026. However, after the encouraging response received from the public, UIDAI decided to extend it for another year. UIDAI announced this information in an office memorandum (OM) issued on May 13, 2026.

Free Aadhar Card Update Facility

Free Aadhaar card update facility is available exclusively on ‘myAadhaar’ portal. On the contrary, if you choose to visit an Aadhaar center to update your documents, you will have to pay a fee. UIDAI from time to time encourages individuals to update their Aadhaar information.

This especially applies to those who enrolled for Aadhaar many years ago, whose supporting documents are outdated, or who have not made any updates in recent years. The main objective of this initiative is to ensure that the Aadhaar database remains accurate and up-to-date.

Which Aadhaar updates are free?

Document updates are provided free of cost on the ‘myAadhaar’ portal. However, if you choose to get this done at an Aadhaar centre, a fee of ₹75 is applicable. Regarding biometric updates such as fingerprints, iris scans and photographs, the first update done between the age of 5 to 7 years is free.

Similarly, the first (or second) update made between the ages of 15 and 17 is also free. A fee of Rs 125 is charged for all other biometric updates. Biometric updates for children aged 7 to 15 years will remain free till September 30, 2026.

Demographic updates such as changes in name, address, mobile number or email address are provided free of cost when done along with biometric updates. However, if these demographic updates are done separately (as a stand-alone service), a fee of Rs 75 will be charged.

mAadhaar app will be closed soon

UIDAI has also announced that the old mAadhaar app will be discontinued soon. In its place, a new Aadhaar app will come, which will provide users with secure QR-based Aadhaar sharing, better privacy controls, easy digital access and better user experience.
