German actress Luna Jordan has died at the age of 25. The award-winning star, best known for her roles in Polizeiruf 110 and Jenseits der Spree, died "suddenly and unexpectedly" on May 13, her agents confirmed in a statement on Monday (May 18). No cause of death has been publicly revealed. Just a few weeks before her death, it was announced that Jordan had landed the role of photographer Astrid Kirchherr in the upcoming Beatles biographical series Hamburg Days.

Born in Berlin, Jordan began acting at a young age and went on to appear in a string of German television dramas and films, including Der Bergdoktor, Wild Republic and Euphorie - the German remake of HBO's Euphoria. In 2022, the actress won the Austrian Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her breakthrough role in Fuchs im Bau (Fox in a Hole).

During her acceptance speech, she spoke openly about sexual abuse within the film and theatre industry.

She said: "I am just 20 years old and I have already been a victim of sexual abuse on film sets and in theatres four times. That should not be normal, but it is."

Jordan was also known to international audiences for her role as Neda in the hit Netflix crime thriller series Schlafende Hunde (Sleeping Dog).

Earlier this year, Jordan also appeared in the NDR documentary Child Actors - The Price of Success, which was broadcast just days before her death.

In the documentary, she spoke candidly about the emotional toll of growing up in the entertainment industry and the immense pressures faced by young performers.

She said: "I sometimes lay crying on the floor for half an hour and didn't know what was wrong with me. I can no longer destroy myself for such projects, otherwise I won't be able to do this job at 25."

Jordan, who also wrote screenplays, was described as an "extraordinary talent who displayed a unique, dramatic intensity" by broadcaster NDR.

Tributes have since poured in for the young actress, with one writing on X: "R.I.P. wonderful Luna Jordan. What a terrible day."

Another said: "So much love for Luna Jordan. Apparently had to endure so much in her short life, her speech at the Austrian Film Awards remains unforgettable. RIP."

A third posted: "Luna Jordan was supposed to play Astrid Kirchherr in the Hamburg Days biopic. May she rest in peace, this is horrible."
