For this, the authority has sought detailed reports from all the work circles. Officials have been instructed to tell to which alternative places the markets situated on the main roads can be shifted.

The authority is also collecting information about how many people do business in these markets, what kind of business is done and whether there are permanent markets around the places where markets are held.

Why is there a demand to shift the markets?

  • Due to disorganized roadside markets, people have been facing traffic jams and traffic problems for a long time.
  • At many places, the movement of emergency vehicles like fire brigade and ambulance is also affected due to markets.
  • Questions have also been raised regarding women’s safety and crowd control, in view of which the Noida Authority is now planning to operate the weekly markets in a more systematic manner.
  • The authority team will assess the number of markets, condition of shopkeepers, parking arrangements, crowd pressure and impact on traffic. Besides, suggestions will also be taken from local residents and shopkeepers, so that better arrangements can be made for the operation of the markets.
  • Before the Corona period, weekly markets were organized at 13 places in the city. However, many markets were closed during Covid. Later, on the instructions of the district administration, limited operation of markets was started at about 10 places, but all the markets were not completely restored.
  • Recently, Noida Weekly Market Association had challenged the decision of the authority in the court regarding the operation of weekly markets. After receiving orders from the court to restore the markets, the authority has now started the process of preparing a new outline of the markets.

What did the Additional Chief Executive of Noida Authority tell?

According to Satish Pal, Additional Chief Executive Officer of Noida Authority, permanent locations for the markets will be decided on the basis of the survey report. If necessary, some markets can also be shifted to another place. Apart from this, a separate plan will also be prepared regarding parking, barricading, cleanliness and security arrangements.
