Kirstie Allsopp warned 'steady on' as she addresses being 'too mean' to Phil Spencer

Property show Location, Location, Location was revolutionary when it first aired in 2000 as one of the UK's first ever programmes in the genre. The show is presented by Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer and has run for 405 episodes and counting.

One of the secrets behind its success is the dynamic between hosts Kirstie, 54, and Phil, 56, who have fronted the Channel 4 show since it first aired 26 years ago.

There is a great deal of interest in their relationship and Kirstie was forced to answer claims that she was "too mean" to her long time co-star during a podcast interview.

Speaking on the Off Air with Jane & Fi podcast, she denied being "mean to Phil" before adding: "I think I'm a saint." She then went on to add that TV producers on the show perhaps don't help the perception.

Kirstie said: "I think it's edited to make me looker meaner to Phil than I actually am. I do all sorts of things to make Phil's life genuinely easier. The edit is done in a certain way and Phil does put on a put upon face. But I live with that, it's the manosphere."

Phil then said "steady on" while he also added: "No, she's not mean at all."

The pair have now been working together for more than a quarter of a century. They have won over an army of fans due to their on-screen chemistry and sibling-like taunting. They have previously admitted that they are often mistaken for husband and wife.

They first met during a screen test for Location, Location, Location. And according to Kirstie, she made Phil "nervous" during their first encounter. She told TV Times magazine: "I made him nervous!

"I've never understood why people are scared of me. The question most people ask me is 'Is Phil as nice as he seems?'"

Last year Phil told The Telegraph that Kirstie is "among the most important people in my life". Kirstie agreed, adding: "We'll never be apart. I can't imagine a day when he and I go more than a month without seeing each other."

Despite this Phil didn't attend Kirstie's wedding last year as she tied the knot with long-term partner Ben Anderson. It was reportedly so last-minute that many important guests such as Phil couldn't attend.

Kirstie told MailOnline: "We had with us a small group of close friends and family who only heard about the wedding on Monday."

Kirstie also talked about rising property prices in the UK, disputing the notion that programmes like Location, Location, Location are to blame.

She told the Off Air with Jane & Fi podcast: "We are, and always have been, a show about buying homes. And about the long term, the family, work, those sort of things, and that's the advice we've always given and that's never changed.

"We're not an investment show, there have been other shows, and some of them are very good, but the show we've always made is the show about finding someone a home.

"I use the comparison to Jamie Oliver. We have an obesity crisis in this country, and no one thinks it's Jamie Oliver's fault because he goes on the telly talking about delicious food.

"There are loads of things that contributed to the situation we're in now. Mortgages, buy to let mortgages, attacking pensions and then people seeking other forms of investment other than pensions. In genuinely don't believe that Phil and I are the reason we are in a crisis of affordability."
