Punjabi singer Yashinder Kaur, popularly known as Inder Kaur, was found dead in the Neelon Canal near Ludhiana on Tuesday, nearly five days after she allegedly went missing. The 29-year-old singer, a resident of Mundian Kalan, had reportedly disappeared on May 13. Police have now launched a murder investigation and are probing allegations of kidnapping, coercion, and forced marriage pressure.

According to reports, Inder Kaur had left her home on the evening of May 13 in her Ford Figo car, reportedly to buy groceries. When she failed to return and her phone was found switched off, her family began searching for her and later approached the police.

Blood stains discovered inside vehicle

Her body was recovered from the Neelon Canal near village Kuba on Tuesday morning. Investigators also recovered her car from near the canal in Rampur village, around a kilometre away from where the body was found. Police said blood stains were discovered inside the vehicle, raising suspicions that the singer may have been murdered in the car before her body was dumped into the canal.

Family members have accused a Canada-based man, identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha from Moga, of orchestrating the crime. They alleged that he had been pressuring Inder Kaur to marry him despite already being married and having children. According to the family, the singer had refused the proposal, after which she was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint.

Inder Kaur’s brother told police that the accused, along with his associates, allegedly abducted her from the GTB Nagar area of Mundian Kalan.

Sub Inspector Dalvir Singh, SHO of Jamalpur police station, said preliminary investigations revealed that Inder Kaur and Sukhwinder Singh were previously in a relationship but later separated. Police suspect the alleged kidnapping was linked to her refusal to marry him.

Investigators further found that Sukhwinder Singh had reportedly entered India via Nepal on April 29 and returned to Canada through the same route on May 13 — the day the singer went missing. An FIR has been registered against Sukhwinder Singh, his father Pritam Singh, and his associate Karamjeet Singh of Bhaloor village in Moga.

Police have arrested Pritam Singh and Karamjeet Singh, while efforts are underway to gather further evidence and trace additional links in the case.
