Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been removed as vice-captain of India’s Test team for the upcoming one-off match against Afghanistan and dropped from the ODI squad for the ensuing three-match series against the same opponents, PTI reported on Tuesday.
KL Rahul has replaced Pant as vice-captain of the Indian Test side, which will continue to be led by Shubman Gill.
The squads were finalised during a meeting of the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI senior men’s selection committee ahead of the home series against Afghanistan, according to PTI.
The one-off Test will be played in Mullanpur from June 6, followed by a three-match ODI series from June 14 in Dharamsala, Lucknow and Chennai.
Senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been rested for the Test match, while pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for both the one-off Test and the ODI series against Afghanistan as part of workload management
Spinner Manav Suthar and pacer Gurnoor Brar earned maiden Test call-ups, while Prince Yadav received his first ODI call-up.
Ishan Kishan has been named as the second wicketkeeper in the ODI squad.
