Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court on Tuesday stayed the transport strike planned by transport employees’ unions for May 20 over the issue of wage revision and salary hike.
The strike had been called to oppose the government’s decision to implement wage revision from 2025 instead of 2024 and to protest against the 12.5 per cent salary hike offered instead of the demanded 25 per cent increase.
The division bench comprising Justice Suraj Govindaraj and Justice K Manmatha Rao issued the interim stay order and also served notices to the state government and transport employees’ unions.
The High Court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions to stop the proposed strike scheduled for May 20.
During the hearing, the court advised the unions to hold discussions with the Transport Minister and adjourned the matter to Thursday.
Transport unions had earlier warned that if the government failed to convince employees by Tuesday afternoon, buses of all four state-run road transport corporations, including Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, would remain off the roads from 6 am on Wednesday.
A lengthy meeting chaired by Labour Commissioner Dinesh Kumar was held on Monday at the Labour Bhavan on Bannerghatta Road between transport corporation officials and leaders of the Joint Action Committee of road transport workers’ unions. However, the talks ended without any resolution.
