RR vs LSG IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals Face Do-or-Die Clash Against Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur

Just 48 hours after a crushing defeat to Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals return to Jaipur on Tuesday knowing there is no margin for error as they take on Lucknow Super Giants in a must-win IPL 2026 encounter.

Rajasthan are still mathematically alive in the playoff race, but another loss could all but end their campaign after an inconsistent season filled with missed opportunities. Adding to their worries is their disappointing home record this year. The Sawai Mansingh Stadium, traditionally considered their stronghold, has failed to deliver a single victory for the Royals this season.

Their latest defeat against Delhi Capitals reflected many of the problems that have plagued Rajasthan throughout the tournament. Despite being in control for large portions of the chase, another middle-order collapse and poor finishing cost them dearly. Their bowlers also struggled to maintain control during crucial phases, while sloppy fielding once again hurt the side.

One of Rajasthan’s biggest positives this season has been teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old has impressed with fearless batting and explosive starts at the top of the order. However, the Royals have often relied too heavily on the youngster, while Yashasvi Jaiswal has struggled to consistently support him.

Dhruv Jurel has contributed valuable runs in the middle order, and captain Riyan Parag has shown signs of regaining form after a slow start to the season. Still, RR have repeatedly failed to close out innings strongly in pressure situations.

Parag did not hold back after the loss to Delhi, openly criticising the team’s fielding standards and admitting Rajasthan had let themselves down.

“The fielding was poor. If we keep playing like this, we shouldn’t even be in contention for the top four,” Parag said, while acknowledging that the team’s playoff hopes now depend on other results as well.

“If we don’t qualify, it’s our fault — no one else’s. We’ll try to improve in the next two games and hopefully finish with two wins,” added Parag, who is also managing a hamstring niggle.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants may already be out of playoff contention, but they arrive in Jaipur with confidence after defeating Chennai Super Kings in their previous match.

LSG’s campaign has also lacked consistency, especially in batting, but their recent win highlighted the danger they pose when their key players perform together. Mitchell Marsh starred in that victory with a powerful innings, while skipper Rishabh Pant continues to search for rhythm in a difficult season. Pant has frequently shuffled his batting position and even sat out with the bat in the previous game as the team experimented with combinations.

With no pressure of qualification, Lucknow could prove dangerous opponents against a Rajasthan side carrying the burden of survival.

Historically, Rajasthan Royals have dominated this fixture, winning five of the seven meetings between the two teams. But in the IPL, current form and momentum often outweigh past records — especially during the business end of the season.

The Sawai Mansingh Stadium pitch has been batting-friendly this year, with plenty of high-scoring matches. The average first-innings total across the last five games at the venue stands at 214, suggesting another run-fest could be expected. Weather conditions are likely to remain hot and dry, with temperatures around 35°C, ensuring uninterrupted play under lights.
