Laura Linney joins HBO and DC Studios series ‘Lanterns’

Laura Linney has officially joined the cast of HBO and DC Studios’ upcoming series Lanternsmarking her entry into the expanding DC television universe.

Linney’s casting has been confirmed alongside previously announced stars, including Aaron Pierre, Kyle Chandler, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Jason Ritter, and Ulrich Thomsen.

It was also previously confirmed that Nathan Fillion will reprise his role as Green Lantern Guy Gardner.

While Linney’s role remains under wraps, she briefly appears in a newly released teaser for the series, offering fans a first glimpse of her involvement.

According to the official logline, Lanterns follows recruit John Stewart and veteran Lantern Hal Jordan as they are drawn into a dark, grounded mystery on Earth.

The pair investigates a murder in the American heartland, blending superhero mythology with a crime-driven narrative.

The series has been ordered for eight episodes and is set to premiere on August 16, 2026. HBO produces it in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios.

Originally developed as a Max original, Lanterns was later shifted to HBO as part of a broader content strategy adjustment. The move reflects the platform’s renewed focus on high-profile scripted programming.

With its ensemble cast and genre-blending premise, Lanterns is positioned as one of the key upcoming entries in the DC television slate.
