PM Modi is currently on a tour of five countries. They have reached Norway, which is the fourth stop of their tour. Norway is a country that is famous for its breathtaking beauty; The high mountains, the bright colors of the ‘Northern Lights’ dancing in the sky and the magnificent glaciers – all these together add to its grandeur. However, very few people know that there are places in India too whose beauty rivals Norway—places that are fondly called “mini Norway”. The truth is that the beauty of some places in India is so similar to the views of Norway that they have come to be called “Mini Norway”. These include the Dibang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh, and the Narkanda and Lahaul valleys of Himachal Pradesh. Read on to find out why these places have been given the title of “Mini Norway.”
Dibang Valley: A beauty that rivals Norway
Whenever there is talk of “Mini Norway” in India, the name of Dibang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh first comes to mind, because its beauty is very similar to Norway. Due to low population, this area remains away from crowd. Many natural tourist places here further enhance its beauty. Geographically, it is a U-shaped valley, where roads zigzag and move forward, eating into the ground. The area is home to more than 500 unique species—including rare animals like the Mishmi Takin and the Red Panda—making it recognized as a biodiversity hotspot. It is mandatory for anyone wishing to visit Dibang Valley to obtain an ‘Inner Line Permit’ (ILP).
Narkanda: A charming hill station of Himachal Pradesh
Narkanda is a beautiful and peaceful hill station located in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh. It is famous for its apple orchards, dense pine forests and spectacular views of snow-clad mountain peaks. ‘Hatu Peak’ is the highest point of Narkanda and the main attraction here; An ancient temple of Hatu Mata is built on its peak. The lush, velvety meadows of the “Barley Garden” that surround the peak are a treat to the eyes that soothes the soul—much like the natural beauty of Norway. This is the reason why this special place in India is also called ‘Mini Norway’. Narkanda is a place of peace and enchanting beauty. It is situated amidst dense forests of pine and cedar. During the summer months, the area is famous for its beautiful views of almond and cherry blossoms. What makes Narkanda different during the winter season is its serene atmosphere; Unlike many other hill stations, there is no noise and bustle here which is often seen in tourist places. During this period, apple orchards remain covered in snow.
Lahaul Valley: Beauty all around
The Lahaul Valley in Himachal Pradesh forms another connection between India and Norway. Located outside Rohtang and the Atal Tunnel Corridor, Lahaul resembles a cold desert. It is identified by its vast open plains, high mountains and settlements spread over a large area. In winter, the lower parts of the valley are covered with snow while the Chinar trees stand majestically under the open sky, adding to the unmatched beauty of this area.
