Planning a summer vacation? Leaving the traditional mountains and seas, now put the name of a completely new place on the list. There is an outstanding architecture surrounded by beautiful nature. Those who are interested to know the rituals and rules of different religions will also be very happy to reach this place.
If you climb this mountain, before the natural beauty or forest area, you can see countless temples! There are more than 900 temples with elaborate rock carvings, according to statistics. And if you want to see it, you don’t need to step outside India. Instead, you have to go to Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. The name of the city of Palitana has become the ‘City of Temples’. Because Shatrunjaya hill stands tall in the middle of the city, which has a row of rocky temples (Shatrunjaya Hill Temple) spread over its entire surface.
Palitana is one of the major pilgrimage sites of Jainism. It is believed that a visit to this temple on Shatrunjaya Hill gives you the opportunity to achieve immense merit. It was here that 23 of the 24 Tirthankars were enlightened. A separate temple has been built for each of them. The most notable temples here are Adinath Mandir, Chaumukh Mandir, Bimal Shah Mandir etc. Every architecture exemplifies the magnificent style of stone construction. Needless to say, there is no other like it in the world.
But there is a strange belief around this mountain. Everyone has to come down from the mountain before the sun goes down, be it the temple worshiper or the devotee. After sunset, silence engulfs the entire mountain.
But why? According to local belief, this mountain is actually the abode of God. Only Gods and Jain priests sleep there. So no one has the right to sleep there, whether he is an ordinary visitor or a servant of God, whoever he is!

How to go?
Palitana can be reached just 50 km from Bhavnagar Airport. Can also get down at Palitana railway station. Besides, you can reach here by rental car from Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad. There are also daily bus and taxi services. But the journey does not end on reaching Palitana.
Shatrunjay hill can be reached by climbing about 3800 steps. There are palanquins for those who cannot walk that far. Early morning is the best time to start climbing. Because when the sun is overhead, the journey becomes laborious. Moreover, everyone has to keep in mind that they can return before sunset after visiting the temple.
