According to a report, K. Rajan jumped into the river from Adyar bridge in Chennai. Later, fire and rescue personnel recovered his body and sent it to the hospital. Police have started investigating this incident.

Apart from film production, he also played an important role in the film business sector. In the year 2000, he served as the President of Chennai Film Distributors Association. His son, Prabhukanth also entered the Tamil film industry as an actor.
