Maruti Suzuki boosts Kharkhoda plant, India capacity rises to 26.5 lakh cars

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki has started commercial production at the second plant of its Kharkhoda facility in Haryana from May 18, 2026, as per the stock exchange filing. The new plant adds 2.5 lakh units of annual capacity, taking the carmaker’s total production capacity across India to 26.5 lakh units per year.

The move gives Maruti Suzuki more room to build SUVs and mass-market cars at a time when Indian buyers are still leaning heavily toward practical, feature-rich and fuel-efficient vehicles. For anyone who follows the car market, Kharkhoda is now becoming one of the most watched manufacturing sites in India.

Kharkhoda now gets bigger in Maruti’s factory map

The second Kharkhoda plant joins the first plant at the same facility, which started commercial production in February 2025. Both plants have a capacity of 2.5 lakh units each, giving Kharkhoda a combined annual capacity of 5 lakh units.

Maruti Suzuki currently manufactures the Brezza compact SUV and the Victoris mid-size SUV at Kharkhoda. That makes sense too. SUVs are still the hot corner of India’s car bazaar, and brands need steady supply to avoid long waiting periods.

Maruti Suzuki’s production capacity in India

Facility Annual capacity
Gurugram 5 lakh units
Manesar 9 lakh units
Hansalpur, Gujarat 7.5 lakh units
Kharkhoda, Haryana 5 lakh units
Total 26.5 lakh units

Why this matters for buyers and auto watchers

The latest expansion is part of Maruti Suzuki’s earlier plan to add 5 lakh units of capacity during FY2026-27. Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda facility is expected to become one of Suzuki’s largest four-wheeler manufacturing locations, with capacity to produce 10 lakh vehicles a year.
