Its special thing is that now the timer for deleting a message will not start as soon as it is sent, rather the timer will become active as soon as the other person reads the message.

Users will be able to set different time limits

According to the report, users will be able to decide the time of deletion after the message is read. You will get these time options: 5 minutes, 1 hour, 12 hours. If the other person does not open the message, the message will be automatically deleted after 24 hours.

How is it different from the existing disappearing messages feature?

Currently, WhatsApp has a timer of 24 hours, 7 days and 90 days for disappearing messages. But in the new feature, the timer will start after reading the message, which will further improve privacy. Users can turn this feature on for specific chats or use it as the default setting for all new chats.

Feature will have to be turned on manually

It has been said in the report that this feature will not be activated automatically. To use it, users will have to go to the settings and turn it on manually. Currently this feature is available for limited beta users and in the coming time it can be rolled out for all users.
