The Managing Director (MD) and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility confirmed during the company’s earnings call that the new-gen Sierra EV will be launched in the market in the second quarter (Q2 FY27) of the financial year 2026-27 i.e. between July to September 2026. The company is working on a strategy to further strengthen its share in the 4.2 meter to 4.5 meter SUV segment through this new vehicle.

The last financial year (FY26) has been excellent for Tata Motors, in which the company has set new records in both petrol, diesel (ICE) and electric (EV) segments. To maintain the company’s lead in the domestic market, the cult name of Sierra is now being brought back in the electric avatar. According to the MD, this year will be full of launches of new products for Tata Motors. The company will introduce at least 2 new names and 4 major facelift models in the market in this financial year.
Direct competition with these big vehicles in the market
According to the official statement of the MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, after hitting the Indian roads, this vehicle will directly compete with the upcoming premium electric vehicles like Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara and Mahindra BE 6.
Features of Sierra EV and impact on customers
According to automobile market experts, the new-gen TATA Sierra EV is being built on the company’s new dedicated EV architecture. A large battery pack of about 55kWh can be seen in it, which will be capable of giving a range of about 500 kilometers in a single charge. This vehicle will slot in Tata’s existing EV portfolio above the Nexon EV (Nexon.ev) and just below the Harrier EV (Harrier.ev).
After its launch, it could prove to be a premium and historic option for customers planning to buy a mid-size SUV. Apart from this, the company can also offer advanced features like level-2 ADAS, triple-screen dashboard layout and all-wheel drive (AWD) option.
