The Michelin Guide shared the list on its official Instagram account on May 12, featuring 10 eateries including well-known Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice and Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice, both of which previously appeared in the Michelin Bib Gourmand selection that honors establishments for serving great food with affordable prices.

The post, however, prompted mixed reactions online, Asia One reported.

Several commenters said they disagreed with the inclusion of certain stalls, citing issues such as inconsistent taste, declining quality and relatively high prices.

Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice was among the eateries that drew criticism despite its international popularity and long-standing reputation.

One commenter wrote that including the stall “completely killed the credibility of the list,” while another said recent visits left them unimpressed and concerned that tourists might get the wrong impression of Singapore-style chicken rice.

Some netizens expressed disappointment that longtime favorites such as Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice and Chatterbox were absent from the list.

The discussion also extended to Reddit, where users questioned how the selections were determined, noting that Michelin’s post did not provide detailed explanations for the choices.

Another eatery that generated debate was Margaret Drive Sin Kee Chicken Rice.

On its website, Michelin described the stall’s chicken as “juicy and tender” and its rice as “aromatic,” adding that the dish is served with an “addictive ground ginger sauce.”

Some online commenters disagreed with the assessment, with one describing the chicken as “tough and tasteless.” Others offered more balanced views, saying the stall could be good on some days but inconsistent on others.
