Summer is on its way but the UK is still not quite there. If you're tired of the grey, rainy weather that has swept across the UK the last couple of days, you might want to look at going further afield. A lot of people are planning on taking their holidays between July and September 1 - but if you want a cheaper, quieter holiday then the shoulder season is your best bet.

Laura Evans-Fisk, head of digital and engagement at eurochange said: "Although the summer holidays will always be the most popular holiday season for Brits, there is a lot to be said for booking a last-minute trip in May and early June. There are some brilliant lesser-known hidden gems you can visit inEurope, that still see temperatures reach up to 25°c in May, and flight prices are usually much more reasonable.

"Visiting destinations that are a little more 'off the beaten track' than typical hotspots and popular resorts is a great way to experience the true local culture, and explore with far fewer crowds."

One of these spots is Cadiz in Spain. Lesser travelled than the tourism hotspots of Barcelona and Madrid, Cadiz is located on the southern tip of Spain. It's a short train right from Seville and is one of the hottest places in the country.

Laura said: "This coastal town is incredibly rich in history, with plenty of stunning landmarks to visit, including the Castle of Santa Catalina, and the Torre Tavira, which offers amazing views of the city."

Cadiz is also very walkable - you can explore the gorgeous Old Town, the bustling seafront and more all on foot.

It's also one of the oldest consistently inhabited cities in Europe, so there's plenty of history to be seen - including a Roman theatre, and plenty of artifacts inside the museum.

In Cadiz, you're never far away from a gorgeous sea view, and there's plenty of charming cafes and restaurants to enjoy delicious Spanish tapas, and freshly caught seafood.

Between May and June, the average temperature in Cadiz is 25C and direct flights start at just £86 return.
