North Gyeongsang police and fire officials said the boy’s body was discovered at around 10:13 a.m. on May 12, about 100 meters below the mountain summit, The Korea Herald reported.
He is believed to have died after falling from the cliff, Korea Times reported.
Rescue teams recovered the body after deploying more than 350 personnel on the third day of the search operation.
The sixth-grade student had traveled with his parents from Daegu to visit Daejeonsa, a Buddhist temple inside the national park, on May 10.
At around noon, he reportedly told his parents he would “go a little farther up the mountain” before heading alone toward the summit without carrying a cellphone.
The hiking trail from the temple to the 720-meter-high Juwangsan peak spans about two to three kilometers and typically takes adults around one hour and 20 minutes each way.
His parents reported him missing later that day after he failed to return.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
