Honda NX500 E-Clutch— Leading automobile manufacturer Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has launched its premium adventure bike Honda NX500 in the Indian market with the new ‘E-Clutch’ feature. This new technology can prove to be a game-changer for riders who want to avoid the fatigue of repeatedly pressing the clutch during heavy city traffic and long distance journeys. The company has fixed the ex-showroom price of this updated model at ₹ 7.44 lakh.
Honda NX500 E-Clutch: Honda launches clutch-less adventure bike, know the new price and features
What is Honda E-Clutch and how will it work?
Honda’s e-clutch technology is the world’s first system that combines the experience of an automatic clutch with a manual gearbox. In this, the rider does not need to press the clutch lever while changing gear, starting or stopping the bike. The bike’s engine control unit (ECU) and sensors automatically operate the clutch by sensing the pressure of the gear pedal.
- Gear shift without clutch: The rider can change gears directly with the foot.
- Risk of stalling is eliminated: There is no fear of the bike stalling in heavy traffic.
- Option of manual control: If the rider wishes, he can always ride the bike in a conventional manner by using the clutch lever.
Price and competition: How much has the burden on the budget increased?
The standard (non-e-clutch) model of NX500 is selling for ₹ 6.33 lakh in the Indian market. The new E-Clutch variant costs ₹1.11 lakh more. Talking about additional weight, due to this system the total weight of the bike has increased by only 3 kg to 199kg.
Its direct competition in the market is considered to be from the recently launched BMW F 450 GS (price around ₹ 5.30 lakh) and Kawasaki Versys 650 (₹ 7.77 lakh). However, Honda’s e-clutch technology makes it different and modern in its segment.
Official Statement: What does the company say?
What changed for common citizens and riders?
This update is a big relief for those enthusiasts who used to shy away from riding adventure bikes in the traffic of metros like Delhi-NCR or Mumbai. With the help of e-clutch, arm pain in stop-and-go traffic will now be a thing of the past. Like before, the bike will continue to have premium features like 471cc parallel-twin engine, 5-inch TFT display and smartphone connectivity.
