Amid a sharp rise in digital fraud cases, the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has issued a new advisory. Through this, the EPFO has urged its subscribers to be cautious of online scams. To spread awareness, the organisation shared a video on X, in which a spokesperson warned users about the increasing fraud attempts and encouraged them to adopt basic safety measures.
What is the warning?
The EPFO has clearly stated that it never asks for personal or sensitive information through phone calls, messages, or social media. Any communication seeking such details in the name of the EPFO should be treated with suspicion and potentially fraudulent intent.
What advice is given to users?
Subscribers are strongly cautioned against sharing details such as UAN, passwords, OTPs, Aadhaar numbers, bank account information, or debit/credit card PINs with anyone. Sharing such data may lead to financial fraud and unauthorized access to accounts.
What should users do?
The EPFO has advised users to rely only on its official platforms, such as its website and the UMANG app, for any services. Users should always verify the authenticity of websites before entering personal details. It also clarified that all EPFO services are completely free, and people should avoid dealing with agents or third parties who may attempt to charge fees.
Precautions
The advisory also warns users about fake links and fraudulent messages. People are advised not to click on unknown links, download suspicious files, or respond to unsolicited calls, emails, or social media messages claiming to represent the EPFO. Installing APK files from untrusted sources should also be avoided.
What has EPFO recommended?
To enhance safety, the EPFO recommends keeping your registered mobile number and email ID updated with your UAN to receive official alerts. In case of any suspicious activity, users should immediately report it through the official EPFO grievance portal.
