News India Live, Digital Desk: Along with the increasing trend of digital payment (UPI) in the country, cyber thugs have found a new and extremely vicious method of cheating, which is being called ‘Jumped Deposit Scam’. The special thing about this scam is that in this the fraudsters first send money to your account and then make you their victim. Recently, the police and financial institutions have issued an alert in this regard, because in this, the psychological state of the user is directly taken advantage of without any technical knowledge or ‘hacking’. How does ‘Jumped Deposit’ scam work? The method of this fraud is quite complex and fast, hence it is named ‘Jumped’: Small Deposit: First of all, the fraudsters deposit money like ₹ 10, ₹ 50 or ₹ 100 in your bank account. Send a small amount. Arousing curiosity: Seeing the money suddenly coming into the account, the user opens his banking app and checks the balance. Collect Request: At the same time when the user is active in the app, the fraudster sends a ‘Collect Request’ of a big amount (like ₹ 10,000 or ₹ 50,000). Benefit of the mistake: The user thinks that this is probably a process of returning the received money or checking the balance. In a hurry, the user enters his UPI PIN. Fund Jump: As soon as the PIN is entered, the money ‘jumps’ from your account to the fraudster, who in a moment transfers it to dozens of different accounts so that it cannot be tracked. Police and experts warn: According to cyber police, fraudsters often make calls asking for ‘help’ or even pretending to ‘transfer money by mistake’. They put psychological pressure on the user so that he enters the PIN on the request sent by them without thinking. Ways to keep yourself safeGolden Rule: Remember that UPI PIN is never required to receive money. If someone is asking for PIN, it means that money is going out of your account. Waiting period (Wait it out): If suddenly an unknown amount has come to your account, then do not take any action immediately. Payment requests sent by fraudsters often expire within 5-10 minutes. Wait at least 15-20 minutes. Read the screen carefully: The PIN entry screen always says “Paying” or “Sending to” at the top. If this happens, stop immediately. Directly direct the bank: If someone calls and says they sent you money by mistake, tell them to contact their bank and report ‘wrongful credit’. Do not send money back on your own. What to do if you get scammed? If you fall victim to this scam, without delay: Call 1930 (Cyber Crime Helpline) immediately. File a complaint on the government portal www.cybercrime.gov.in. Inform your bank so that it can try to block the transaction.
