New Delhi: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has made biometric Aadhaar authentication (e-KYC) compulsory for all domestic LPG consumers to improve subsidy delivery and prevent misuse.
The directive applies to customers of public sector oil companies such as Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum.
Officials said consumers can complete the e-KYC process from home using their smartphones through the mobile applications of their LPG provider along with the Aadhaar FaceRD app. The process does not require visiting the LPG distributor.
The ministry stated that consumers who fail to complete the authentication may face disruption in LPG refill services and suspension of subsidy benefits until verification is completed.
For beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the rule is stricter. They are required to complete biometric authentication at the beginning of every financial year before availing their first refill to continue receiving subsidies.
In addition, oil marketing companies have tightened rules for inactive connections. Consumers who have not booked a refill for more than nine months may need to complete KYC verification in person at distributor offices before placing a new order.
Steps to complete LPG Aadhaar e-KYC from home:
-
Download your LPG provider’s mobile app
-
Install the Aadhaar FaceRD app
-
Log in using your registered mobile number or LPG ID
-
Select the e-KYC or Aadhaar authentication option
-
Enter Aadhaar details linked with your mobile number
-
Proceed with face authentication through the FaceRD app
-
Complete the facial scan as instructed
-
Submit details and receive confirmation
Officials said the authentication is generally valid for one financial year and may need to be updated periodically in some cases.
