Uttarakhand's Parliamentary Affairs and Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal has said that if the shortage of commercial gas cylinders increases, firewood can be provided to hotels and restaurants as an alternative fuel. The minister has also instructed the officials to arrange for wood through the Forest Corporation.

Suggestion for providing wood to hotels and restaurants

The government says that at present the supply of domestic gas is normal, but if the shortage of commercial cylinders increases then other options will have to be explored. Keeping this in mind, instructions have been given to the Forest Department to arrange firewood for non-industrial commercial sectors like hotels and restaurants, if needed. The minister argues that this can help deal with the possible shortage of fuel.

Opposition raised questions in the assembly

This matter was also raised in Uttarakhand Assembly. Opposition parties raised questions on this suggestion of the government. Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya said that if there is a shortage of gas in the state, then the government should ensure its supply. Talking about giving wood is not the solution to the problem. MLA Qazi Nizamuddin also said that the government should strengthen the gas system and not lead people to use wood. The opposition also demanded immediate discussion on this issue.

Amidst the questions from the opposition, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister clarified in the House that at present there is no major shortage of domestic LPG in the state. He said that in view of the current situation, commercial gas cylinders are being given to educational institutions and health services related institutions on priority basis. If there is a fuel problem in other areas like hotels and restaurants, a positive solution will be found for it.

Preparation to increase wood supply

The government has also said that wood can be used as an alternative fuel in non-industrial commercial sectors if needed. For this, the Forest Department has been asked to make a plan to increase the production and supply of wood, so that the work is not affected due to shortage of fuel under any circumstances.

Discussion of gas shortage in Dehradun

Meanwhile, reports of shortage of domestic and commercial gas have also come to light in Dehradun. It is being told that if gas supply does not become normal in the next few days, many gas agencies may have to face problems. However, the government says that the situation is being monitored and if needed, the fuel crisis will be dealt with through alternative arrangements.
