Vijayawada: Representatives of the Andhra Pradesh Hotels Association and Star Hotels Association held an emergency meeting in Vijayawada on Wednesday in the wake of severe shortage of commercial gas cylinders due to the war in West Asia.
Hotel owners expressed concerns over gas shortage and escalating operating costs, potential job losses of thousands of workers, broader impact on street vendors to star hotels. The group extensively debated how long hotels might need to be shuttered without viable alternatives.
To conserve gas, star hotels will soon halt online orders from platforms like Zomato and Swiggy.
No discounts, shutdowns on Monday:
Additionally, restaurants will be completely closed every Monday, designating it as a mandatory weekly holiday to further reduce gas consumption, they said.
Vijayawada Hotels Association President Ramana, AP Star Hotels Association President R.V. Swamy asked the government to issue orders to keep restaurants and street food centers open till 10 pm.
The group appealed to the Andhra Pradesh government and oil marketing companies for prioritized, uninterrupted supplies and pledged cooperation to reduce usage if needed.
Without fresh supplies by Sunday, March 15, widespread shutdowns in Vijayawada could mirror those in Bengaluru and other cities.
