News India Live, Digital Desk: After getting interim bail till March 18 from Delhi High Court, Rajpal Yadav reached his native village Shahjahanpur. Here, while talking to the media, he explained in detail about his legal battle and his association with the film industry.1. Rajpal’s statement on Bollywood’s support When asked whether stars like Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Sonu Sood have helped him financially, he said: “No sympathy, time is needed”: Rajpal said that he does not need people’s pity or sympathy, but needs some time so that he can work hard and repay every penny. Refusal to name: He flatly refused to name the stars who helped him or to tell the amount of help. He said, “I don’t want this help to be made into a public spectacle.” Industry’s trust: He argued that if he were a ‘fraudster’, the industry people would not have given him work continuously in the last 10-12 years. Even today he is doing 10-12 films a year.2. Experience of 12 days of jail and demand for ‘smoking room’ Rajpal made a unique demand regarding the time spent in jail which surprised everyone: Jail as a reform centre: He said that jails should be seen like ‘reform homes’. Advocacy of smoking zone: Rajpal suggested that just as there are ‘smoking areas’ at airports and railway stations, there should be similar ones in jails too. He argued that prisoners who are addicted to smoking remain stressed and there are fights among themselves over beedis and cigarettes.3. What is the whole matter? (The 9 Crore Debt Case) Origin: This controversy started during 2010-2012 when Rajpal had taken a loan of ₹ 5 crore from Murali Projects for his film ‘Aata Pata Lapata’. Interest and check bounce: After the film flopped, he could not repay the loan and with interest the amount became ₹ 9 crore. 7 checks given by him had bounced. Surrender: After repeatedly seeking time to raise the funds, when the court refused to grant further relaxation, Rajpal surrendered before the police in early February 2026. Next hearing and future: March 18, 2026: The court has granted him bail on the condition that he starts returning the money to the complainant in installments. The next hearing will be on March 18. Focus on work: Rajpal said that he will now completely focus on his upcoming films (like ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ and other projects) so that he can be free from debt.
