WhatsApp has been on a feature spree since the start of 2025 and this month is turning into a big event for the platform. WhatsApp New Features In April 2025
Chats
WhatsApp says ‘Online’ indicators now work in group chats as well. This way you can see how many people are ‘Online’ in real-time, right under the group name.
Another big update for groups is highlight notifications. WhatsApp says, use a new way to prioritise notifications in a group to select people by using the @mention tag.
WhatsApp now lets you create an event per 1-to-1 chats. That’s not all, the messaging app gives you the option to RSVP for the event, add one more person and pin it on the chat.
Chat reactions are going further as you can now quickly view other’s reactions and tap the one you want to send to the person as well.
You don’t need camscanner apps anymore on iPhone as WhatsApp lets you scan and send documents within the messaging app. Simply select ‘Scan document’ from the attachment tray and follow the steps to scan, crop, and save the document.
Calls
Well, it is not just the chats on WhatsApp that have got new features this month, you also have some useful additions for calls.
You now get a dedicated tab to make new calls, share call links, and manage your call history, all in one place. For video calls, WhatsApp iPhone users have the power to pinch-to-zoom to get a closer look at the person you are talking with.
Continuing with the focus on videos, WhatsApp says it has upgraded the technology to make your video calls more reliable and higher quality. It is now able to analyse your network strength and ensure the video call does not drop, or upgrade to HD quality if the connection is strong.
And yes, WhatsApp now lets users add someone to an ongoing 1:1 call directly from a chat thread by tapping the call icon on the top and selecting ‘Add to call’.
