A new rule is going to be implemented from April 1. After this, UPI transactions will not be possible from the bank account linked to the inactive mobile number. This decision has been taken given the increasing cyber fraud.
UPI New Rule: If you use UPI for digital transactions then there is a big news for you. Actually, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has asked banks and payment service providers to update their database by March 31. After this, UPI payment service will be stopped on inactive mobile numbers from April 1. This step has been taken to prevent the ever-increasing cyber crimes and other frauds.
What is the new rule?
NPCI has said that those mobile numbers linked to UPI, which have been closed for a long time, will be removed from the bank account. In simple terms, this means that if your bank account is linked with an inactive number, it will be deleted. After this, UPI transactions cannot be done through inactive numbers. NPCI says that inactive numbers cause technical glitches in UPI and banking systems. Telecom operators allot inactive numbers to other users, which increases the risk of fraud. Now NPCI has asked all banks and service providers like Google Pay and Phone Pay to update their database every week.
What to do to avoid this?
This decision of NPCI will have the most impact on those users whose bank account is linked to their old and inactive mobile numbers. If your bank account is also linked to an old or such number that is no longer active, then update your number with the bank account. Also, inactive numbers can be activated by contacting your telecom service provider. This decision will not affect the number being active and customers will be able to use UPI services as before.
