According to the Supreme Court order, the EPFO ​​has started giving more pension to the people. But about 5 lakh people can be deprived of this, because their high pension application can be rejected. What is this whole matter?

The Supreme Court of the country ordered the EPFO ​​in November 2022 to provide more pension options to his subscribers. After this, the EPFO ​​decided the rules and procedure for this and now has started issuing payment orders for this. So far, more than 21,000 payment orders of high pension have been released. Payment orders of the remaining 1.65 lakh people are expected to be issued soon. But 5 lakh people are expected to fall.

The EPFO ​​says that a large number in its subscribers is of people who work with employers who manage the money of the provident funds and pension funds of the employee themselves. Most Trust Base Companies come in it, which are allowed to manage funds from EPFOs. In such a situation, water can be reinforced on the expectation of more pension of these people. There are about 1,552 employer organizations in the country that work under this exemption of EPFO. Most of them are organizations of private sectors.

According to media reports, due to the order of the Supreme Court, EPFO ​​has received applications for more than 7.21 lakh employees for more pension. But EPFO ​​can reject more than 5 lakh applications of this. This is about 65 percent of the total applications. Most of these applications can be of these trust based employees, as there are no clear rules for this. They do not come under the current rules of EPFO's high pension.

Ability to get more pension

The first condition of the qualifications to get 'more pension' from EPFO ​​is that your EPFO ​​membership should start either after 1 September 2014. Or you may have already subscribers of EPFO, but your subscription should be operational even after 1 September 2014.

At the same time, the government had informed in the Lok Sabha that pensioners have applied to get high pension under EPFO's Employees Pension Scheme-1995 (EPS-95). EPFO received overall 17,48,768 applications. Out of these 17.48 lakh applications, in 1,65,621 cases by January 28, 2025, the demand notice has been sent to the members for the remaining amount for high pension.
