In his six-decade career this actor essayed a variety of characters from romantic heroes to supporting roles. This actor also glorified the role of villain in Indian films and went on to become one of the leading villains of the era. We are talking about none other than Pran. Born in 1920 in Lahore into a wealthy Punjabi Hindu family Pran began his career as a hero in 1940. After a decade he started experimenting with negative roles and went on to earn his name as Bollywoods top villain. From 1969-82 he worked in eight films with Amitabh Bachchan and even though Big B was Bollywoods top hero at that time Pran commanded higher salary than him. Several superstars of that time including Manoj Kumar Jeetendra Dharmendra Sunil Dutt Vinod Khanna didnt earn as much as Pran. The only actor who used to earn more than him was Rajesh Khanna. It became very difficult for the makers to cast both the stars in the same film as the budget of the movie was less at that time. Pran became the number one actor in the country till Big B hiked his fees in 80s. He acted in more than 350 films in his career and established himself as a premier villain in Hindi cinema. Pran also bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor three times. In 2001 he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan and in 2013 with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to the industry. He took retirement from acting after 2000. His last film was Dosh released in 2007. He passed away at the age of 93 after battling severe pneumonia.
