The implementation process on the applications given for implementing the Higher Pension Scheme in the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) will be completed by the end of March this year. There are strong indications that from April to May this year, members who opt for maximum pension in EPF will start getting pension.

The Executive Council of EPFO has told the government that in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court, the process of action on pension applications of EPF members as per the higher salary is now progressing rapidly. In this sequence, EPFO has set a target to complete the process of scrutiny of all applications related to higher pension by March 31.

The scheme is being implemented as per the decision of the Supreme Court.
This much-discussed Higher Pension Scheme of EPFO is being implemented in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court dated November 4, 2022. Under this, those who applied initially are getting pension, but after this, the cases of applications sought to give the option of giving higher pension to all the willing members of EPFO have not been fully implemented due to many complexities.

70 percent of the applications have been completed

According to the Ministry of Labor, during the 112th meeting of the EPFO Executive Working Committee, EPFO shared this update about the progress of applications related to higher pension. Regarding the applications received under Pension on Higher Wage (POHW), it was told that till now work has been completed on about 70 percent of the applications and the target is to complete the process of all the applications by March 31.

The issue of applicants was also raised in the meeting.

In this meeting, the issue of those applicants also came up who have deposited the required amount demanded from their EPF fund for higher pension, but their pension has not started yet. This also includes many public sector undertakings that have deposited the contribution for the higher pension of their employees.

Ordered to expedite the issuance of pension

Chairing the meeting, Labor and Employment Secretary Sumita Dawra directed EPFO to expedite such cases of pension issuance. A few months ago, while answering questions raised in Parliament regarding the delay in EPFO's Higher Pension Scheme, the government had said that the payment of higher pension has started to about 22000 members, while the required amount for higher pension under EPS has been deposited from more than 1.65 lakh members. A total of 17,48,766 applications have been made by pensioners and current EPF members under the Higher Pension Scheme.
