New Delhi : National Payments Corporation of India has introduced a new rule to UPI light, which is going to be implemented on 1 April 2025. At present, UPI light users do not get the facility to remove the remaining balance in the account, but now the news is coming that this facility is going to start soon.
A circular was issued by the National Payments Corporation of India i.e. NPCI. In a circular of February 21, 2025, NPCI has ordered all its payment service providers i.e. PSP banks and apps to activate the transfer out feature by 31 March 2025.
There is no facility to withdraw money at this time
At present, UPI light users run in the same way, can load money in UPI light wallet, but they do not get the option to withdraw. If a person wants to withdraw any amount from UPI light, then he will have to disable his UPI light account first. As mentioned on NPCI's website right now.
Light reference number
The NPCI has also said that all the issue banks working on UPI lights will have to maintain the remaining amount of LRN i.e. light reference number level and ensure this. It has also been further written in the circular that in the UPI app with active UPI lights, the app will be locked on the app passcode, biometrics or pattern during the login. These changes will be implemented by 31 March 2025. All the other guidelines for UPI lights will remain the same.
