A wedding celebration in Naughwa Bhagwantpur village turned disastrous when the groom, in a state of intoxication, mistakenly garlanded the bride's best friend during the garland exchange ceremony. The incident, which occurred after a delayed arrival and heavy drinking by the groom, led to a series of unfortunate events, including his arrest and the bride calling off the marriage.
The Garland Mishap
Ravindra Kumar, 26, was late to his wedding and was seen lingering with friends and consuming drinks. The situation escalated when, during the garland-exchanging ceremony, Kumar garlanded the bride's best friend. In an apparent attempt to correct his mistake, he then garlanded a male friend and an elderly guest, creating further confusion and embarrassment.
The bride, Radha Devi, 21, responded to the groom's actions by slapping him and immediately walking away. Her brother, Omkar Verma told TOI that the groom's family was not happy with the dowry gifts and alleged that the groom had misrepresented his occupation as a farmer when he was a truck driver. Verma stated that the family had spent over Rs 10 lakh on the wedding.
Following the incident, a complaint was filed at Kularia police station at 4 am, leading to Kumar's arrest. He was booked under the Dowry Act after a medical examination confirmed his intoxication.
TOI reported that Circle officer Harsh Modi confirmed the groom's intoxication and misbehaviour, stating “The Groom was intoxicated. He misbehaved. His Medical examination confirmed he was drunk. He was booked under section of the Dowry Act”. Despite apologies from the groom and his family, Radha refused to proceed with the wedding.
