HDFC Bank, a major private bank of the country, has announced that its UPI services will be temporarily interrupted for a few hours this week. During this time, customers will not be able to do any transactions through UPI. Not only this, it will also affect merchant transactions. However, it is a matter of relief that this disruption will remain only for a few hours.
When will HDFC Bank's UPI services be closed?
In the information released on its official website, HDFC Bank said that its UPI services will not be available from 12 noon to 3 am on February 8.
During this time the following services will be affected:
- There will be no UPI transactions from HDFC Bank's current and savings account.
- UPI payment to Rupay Credit Card will not be possible.
- UPI payment will not be made through HDFC Bank Mobile Banking App.
- HDFC bank will not be able to be transacted through third-party apps (eg Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm).
- Merchant UPI transactions will also be interrupted through HDFC Bank.
Why is this temporary blockage being done?
The bank said that this system is being upgraded and maintenance, so that customers can get better banking experiences. During this time customers may face some inconvenience. The bank has suggested that customers should first deal with the necessary transactions or take cash out of the ATM if needed.

UPI dominates in digital payment
UPI has become the biggest source of digital payment in India. According to a report by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), UPI stake in digital transactions in 2019, which has now increased to 83%. That is, 83 of every 100 digital payment in the country are made through UPI.
Apart from UPI, the remaining 17% transactions are made via other mediums such as NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, Credit and Debit Card.
