The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced a significant update, allowing members to update their personal details without the need to provide any documents. This change will simplify the process for employees, making it easier and faster to correct various details in their EPFO profile.
Key Changes in EPFO Rules
EPFO has made a major update that allows members to correct their personal information without needing to submit any supporting documents. This includes details like:
- Date of birth
- Citizenship
- Parents' names
- Marital status
- Spouse's name
- Gender
- Date of joining and leaving the company
These updates will benefit over 3.9 lakh members who had pending requests. Now, they can cancel their old requests and resubmit them under the new, streamlined process.
Who Can Update Their Information?
This facility is available to members whose Universal Account Number (UAN) is linked and verified with their Aadhaar. The goal of this update is to speed up the resolution of pending requests and reduce the number of complaints. Previously, changes required verification from the employer, which took around 28 days. With this update, members can make corrections directly and the process is now much faster and more efficient.
Linking PAN with Aadhaar
Before proceeding with any updates, EPFO members must ensure that their PAN is linked to their Aadhaar. If these are not linked yet, they must complete this step first. For most updates, members will be able to make changes directly, but for some updates (about 50% of the information), EPFO approval will still be required. This is designed to minimize complaints and expedite the resolution of issues.
How to Update Your EPFO Profile
To update your details, follow these steps:
- Visit the EPFO website and log in using your UAN number and password.
- Click on the ‘Manage’ tab.
- If you need to update details like your name, date of birth, or gender, choose the ‘Modify Basic Details’ option.
- Enter the correct information as per your Aadhaar details (make sure your EPF and Aadhaar data match).
- If required, upload relevant documents like Aadhaar, PAN, or a Birth Certificate.
This new update will make profile management easier for employees, allowing them to ensure their details are accurate without the hassle of document submission or waiting for employer verification.
