The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced two new services that empower employees to manage their EPF-related tasks independently. With these features, employees can update their personal details and process account transfers online without depending on their employers or requiring EPFO approval, making the process faster and hassle-free.
What Are the New Features?Update Personal Information:
Employees can now change details such as:
- Name
- Date of Birth
- Gender
- Nationality
- Marital Status
- Father/Mother’s Name
- Spouse’s Name
- Dates of Joining and Leaving the Company
This update can be done directly on the EPFO website without employer verification or EPFO approval, provided certain conditions are met.
File EPF Transfer Claims:
Employees whose EPF accounts are e-KYC verified with Aadhaar can now submit transfer claims online using Aadhaar OTP authentication, eliminating the need for employer assistance.
- These features are available to employees whose Universal Account Number (UAN) was issued on or after October 1, 2017, when Aadhaar linking became mandatory.
- For UANs issued before October 1, 2017:
- Updates can still be made, but they require employer verification.
- The requirement for supporting documents has been simplified.
- Employees whose UANs are not linked to Aadhaar will need to follow the traditional route of verification through their employer.
-
Ease for Employees:
Employees can now resolve complaints related to personal details or account transfers more quickly. Currently, 27% of complaints received by EPFO are KYC-related. -
Reduced Processing Times:
Previously, updating details or processing claims involved multiple steps, averaging 12-28 days. Employers often delayed the process, with 20 lakh claims stuck for over 15 days in the past year. These new features eliminate such delays. -
Employer Benefits:
Employers no longer need to spend time verifying and forwarding requests, saving resources and improving efficiency.
The Union Labor and Employment Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, emphasized the significance of these changes, highlighting that they benefit over 10 crore EPFO members. By addressing common issues like KYC updates and transfer delays, these new features will streamline EPFO operations and enhance user experience.
This move marks a significant step toward improving transparency, efficiency, and employee satisfaction in EPF management.
