Over 7.6 crore members of retirement fund body EPFO can now make changes in personal details like name and date of birth online without any verification by the employer or approval from EPFO. This facility started from Saturday.
Additionally, Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) members with e-KYC EPF account (linked to Aadhaar) can directly file their EPF transfer claims online with Aadhaar OTP (One Time Password) without employer intervention.
This service started from today
Union Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched these two new services of EPFO on Saturday. He said that about 27 percent of the complaints filed by EPFO members are related to member profile/KYC issues and after the launch of this facility, these complaints will decline significantly.
He said that requests for amendment in personal details of employees will also benefit large employers with huge workforce. The Labor Minister said that EPFO has simplified the process of joint declaration on the EPFO portal. This enables employees to self-correct common errors in personal information such as name, date of birth, gender, nationality, father's/mother's name, marital status, spouse's name, date of joining and leaving the work organization. Has been.
UAN should be before 2017
For this, there is no need for any verification by the employer or approval by EPFO. In such cases, no supporting documents are required. This facility will be available to those members whose UAN was issued after October 1, 2017 (when matching with Aadhaar became mandatory).
In case the UAN is issued before October 1, 2017, the employer can correct the details even without the approval of EPFO. The requirement of supporting documents for such cases has also been simplified. He said that only in cases where UAN has not been linked to Aadhaar, any correction will have to be submitted physically to the employer and after verification, it will have to be sent to EPFO for approval.
Due to this the decision was taken
UAN registration is done initially by the employer for the employee. For many employees, mistakes were made by employers in entering father/spouse's name, marital status, nationality and service details during or after the registration process. To correct these errors, the employee had to submit an online request along with supporting documents. This request had to be verified by the employer and also sent to EPFO for approval. This process was called joint declaration.
Out of eight lakh requests sent by employers to EPFO in the financial year 2024-25, it was seen that only 40 percent requests were sent within five days while 47 percent requests were sent after 10 days. In this, the average time taken by the employer was 28 days. With this simplification, in 45 percent of the cases, employees will be able to make immediate corrections in personal information through Aadhaar OTP verification. In the remaining 50 percent cases, rectification will be done through the employer.
