The convenience of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) continues to grow, allowing customers to make payments digitally with ease. In an exciting update, users can now link their credit cards to UPI apps, enabling transactions even if their bank account lacks funds. Here's how you can leverage this new feature.
UPI Usage Is SoaringUPI transactions reached an all-time high of 16.73 billion in December 2024, according to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). This marks an 8% increase from November's 15.48 billion transactions.
As the UPI ecosystem evolves, credit card payments via UPI offer an additional layer of flexibility for users, particularly for shopping or emergencies.
How to Link Your Credit Card with UPIDownload a UPI App:
Begin by installing a UPI-enabled app such as BHIM, Google Pay, or PhonePe.
Link Your Credit Card:
- Open the app and go to the "Add Payment Method" section.
- Select "Credit Card" and input your card details, including the credit card number, CVV, and expiry date.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number to verify the linkage.
Create a UPI ID for Your Credit Card:
- Once linked, create a unique UPI ID associated with your credit card.
- To check your UPI ID, navigate to the "Profile" section in your app.
Choose the Payment Method:
- Scan a QR code, select "Pay Phone Number," or choose "Pay Contacts" within the app.
- Alternatively, use the "Self-Transfer" option to transfer money between accounts.
Enter the Amount:
Input the desired amount after confirming the QR code, phone number, or contact details.
Select Credit Card:
When prompted, choose your linked credit card as the payment option.
Authenticate the Transaction:
- Enter your UPI PIN to authorize the transaction.
- Once verified, the payment is complete.
- Convenience: Use your credit card for UPI payments without needing a bank account balance.
- Emergency Usage: Ideal for times when you're short on funds but need to make payments.
- Rewards and Offers: Continue earning credit card rewards while enjoying UPI’s ease of use.
