What is UPI Lite?
UPI Lite works just like an online wallet. The process starts with transferring money to your UPI Lite wallet, which can be done through regular UPI transactions.
Key features of UPI Lite:
No Internet required: Unlike regular UPI, which requires an Internet connection for every transaction, UPI Lite allows you to complete transactions without the need for an active Internet connection.
No UPI PIN required: With UPI Lite, you don’t need to enter a PIN for small-value transactions, making the process even simpler.
Transaction limits: Initially, UPI Lite had a transaction limit of just ₹2000, with individual transactions limited to ₹100. However, these limits have now been increased. You can store up to ₹5000 in your UPI Lite wallet, and individual transactions can go up to ₹500.
Ease of use: UPI Lite is designed for ease of use, especially for small, frequent transactions.
Why UPI Lite is Important
UPI Lite is an important step towards making digital payments more inclusive and convenient. By allowing small transactions without the need for an internet connection or a UPI PIN, it caters to people who frequently make small value purchases.
