Bilaspur. In Bilaspur, the LIC officer himself became a victim of fraud. The fraudsters called him and said that he should come to the bank to update his KYC. When he said that he was busy, the fraudsters advised him to get KYC done online. He asked for OTP after taking the documents and as soon as he told it, Rs 28 lakh was withdrawn from his account. The case is from the Sakri police station area of Bilaspur district. Johnson Ekka, a resident of Nature City, is an administrative officer of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). He received a call from an unknown number on the afternoon of 7 December.
When the LIC officer agreed to online KYC, the fraudsters called him on WhatsApp from another number. During this, the LIC officer told him all his confidential information, ATM card and PAN card numbers. Shortly after this, his ATM card got blocked. When the officer called the same number, the fraudsters asked him for the OTP number received on his mobile. He told the OTP several times. Every time he was assured that his KYC and ATM would be fine. The fraudsters kept asking him for OTP till 10 December. Till then the officer did not get a clue of the fraud. On the morning of 10th December, the fraudsters asked the bank to ask about KYC. When the LIC officer reached the bank to get the details of his account and ATM, he came to know that not only purchases were made by taking a loan from his account, but purchases were also made from his credit card. Along with this, money was also transferred from his account. A total fraud of 28 lakhs was done with the officer by taking loans, purchases and transfers. The bank officers informed him to complaitoin the police station. After which he went to complain. The police have registered a case of fraud and started an investigation.
