SBI: State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest public sector bank, has taken another key decision. A nationwide campaign has been undertaken to sensitize its customers to revive accounts that have become inoperative. Accounts with no transactions for more than two years will become inoperative. SBI suggests that all such persons should complete and renew KYC again. In this regard, a press release was issued on November 30, 2024. It emphasized the importance of customers conducting regular transactions and keeping their accounts activated. Let's find out the details.

If customers do not have any transactions in savings accounts or current accounts after two years, such accounts are considered as inoperative accounts. To renew them, the KYC process needs to be completed again. If your SBI bank account becomes inoperative, you will not be able to do debit transactions, ATM transactions, check deposit, application of new debit cards, change of address etc. The Reserve Bank of India has issued revised guidelines on inoperative accounts or unclaimed deposits on January 1, 2024. Banks have been directed to provide information to their customers through letters or email and SMS.
 

How to activate an inoperative SBI account?

  • Customers whose bank account has become inoperable should go to any SBI bank branch with their KYC documents.
  • Request to renew their account by submitting KYC documents.
  • SBI branch activates the account based on the KYC documents provided by the customers.
  • Account activation details will be communicated through SMS and e-mail.
  • Accounts will be activated within three working days of receiving the application.
  • Passport, voter ID card, driving license, Aadhaar card, NREGA card, letter issued by National Population Register can also be used as KYC documents.
