The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline for attaching the Universal Account Number (UAN) under the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme until December 15, 2024.As per EPFO, “Dear Employers, the date of UAN activation and Aadhaar seeding of Bank Account has been extended till 15th December. Ensure to do the same for all employees who have joined in the current financial year, starting with the latest joinees, to avail the benefit of the Employment Linked Incentive scheme.” In addition to the UAN activation deadline, the government has also extended the date for linking Aadhaar with beneficiary bank accounts, a requirement for receiving scheme benefits.What is Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme?The ELI Scheme, introduced in the Union Budget 2024, is divided into three parts (A, B, and C), each focusing on a different aspect of employment and economic growth. Aadhaar-linked bank accounts will get benefits through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).Scheme A seeks to encourage first-time entrants into formal employment. Eligible employees earning up to Rs 1 lakh per month can get a one-month salary (up to Rs 15,000) in three instalments. Scheme B focuses on job development in the manufacturing sector, whereas Scheme C aims to support firms and encourage worker expansion.
