We all are aware of the fact that Bollywood films are often the remakes of renowned movies and numerous stars have worked in films that were adapted from the original ones. However there is one actor whose films have been remade more than most — and that actor is South superstar Mohanlal. 14 of his films have been remade in Bollywood Mohanlal Viswanathan who predominantly works in the Malayalam film industry has been in the industry for over four decades. Whats truly remarkable about his career is that fourteen of his movies have been remade in Hindi alone across various genres which is rare even among the biggest stars of the industry. These remakes featured well-known actors including Mithun Chakraborty Salman Khan Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal. Among the many remakes of Mohanlal’s films some stand out for their success and the iconic actors who brought his characters to life including Hungama the popular comedy directed by Priyadarshan was inspired by Mohanlal’s Moochakkoru Mookuthi a light-hearted Malayalam film. Similarly Garam Masala a hit comedy starring Akshay Kumar is a remake of Boeing Boeing while Kyun Ki featuring Salman Khan was adapted from the actors Thalavattam. Other notable remakes include Bhool Bhulaiyaa the psychological horror-comedy that was a remake of Manichitrathazhu. Drishyam arguably one of Mohanlal’s most iconic works was remade into a highly successful Hindi film of the same name starring Ajay Devgn. About the actor Mohanlal made his acting debut at age 18 in the Malayalam film Thiranottam in 1978. He has acted in more than 400 films including iconic ones like Dasharatham Ulsavapittennu and Nokketha Dhoorathu Kannum Nattu. The Government of India honoured Mohanlal with Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2019 for his contributions to the cinema. In 2009 he became the first actor in the country to be awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. Born in the village of Elanthoor in the Pathanamthitta district Kerala Mohanlal has won five National Film Awards throughout his career. Apart from the Malayalam film industry he has also made an appearance in Tamil Hindi Telugu and Kannada films.
