Fraudsters are committing UPI fraud in the name of fake PM Kisan Yojana app. Police has issued an alert.
UPI Scam : UPI has become a big platform for transactions. It is also expanding abroad. With technological development, cases of cyber crime are also increasing. Tamil Nadu Police has issued an alert for UPI users about a new type of scam. Many cases of fraudulent banking transactions using UPI have come to light.
Scammers are distributing a fake app named PM Kisan Yojana. As soon as this app is installed, the fraudsters get the information of the users. Which they use for wrong purposes. They can also hack your bank account. On this app, personal information of the consumers like date of birth, PAN, card number is demanded.
How does the scam happen? (PM Kisan Fake App)
Police said that a fake PM Kisan Yojana is shared on WhatsApp and various other mediums to check unauthorized transactions on UPI or PhonePe. It can also restrict SMS usage and device activation from the users. Scammers use it to modify UPI apps by intercepting SMS traffic. The data collected through fraud on UPI apps is used for unauthorized transactions. This scam has also created fear in the minds of people about government schemes.
How to protect yourself (Safety Tips)
- Keep a constant watch on your bank activity. Report any unauthorized transactions to the bank immediately.
- Install any app from Google Play Store or Apple Store.
- Do not click on unknown links. Avoid responding to unwanted and unknown messages or emails.
- Do not share sensitive services or OTP.
- Always use the official app or website for money transactions.
- If you are a victim of fraud, dial the cyber crime toll free helpline number 1930. You can lodge a complaint on www.cybercrime.gov.in.
