New Delhi: The Central Government has issued an order for the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) through the Labor Ministry. The government has directed to make Aadhaar-based OTP (One Time Password) mandatory for activation of UAN (Universal Account Number) of employees. After UAN is activated with the help of OTP, employees will be able to enjoy all the online services provided by EPFO.

Let us tell you that so that employers and employees can get benefits from ELI i.e. Employee Linked Scheme, the Ministry has started working to fulfill the promises announced in the Union Budget 2025. For this, the Ministry of Labor and Employment has asked EPFO ​​to work in campaign mode so that they can activate the UAN of the employees.

Benefits of OTP based activation

With OTP based UAN activation, employees can effectively manage their public fund accounts. You can download PF passbook and easily update personal details along with online claims, advances and fund transfers to withdraw money. Online claims can also be updated real time.

Now there is no need to go to EPFO ​​office

Let us tell you that through this facility, employees get 24-hour access to EPFO ​​services which they can update from their homes. This means that they do not need to come to the EPFO ​​office personally. EPFO will implement this in zonal and regional offices to increase its reach. Later, in the second phase of this process, biometric authentication will also be included in UAN activation, which will be completed through face recognition.

The activation process can be completed using Aadhaar-based OTP (One-Time Password). For this, employers should ensure that their employees activate the UAN by completing the sequential steps mentioned here-

• Go to EPFO ​​member portal.
• Click on Activate UAN under the Important Links category.
• Enter UAN, Aadhaar number, name, date of birth and Aadhaar linked mobile number.
• Employees must confirm that their mobile number is linked to Aadhaar to access the full range of EPFO's digital services.
• Agree to Aadhaar OTP validation.
• Click on “Get Authorization PIN” to receive OTP on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
• Enter OTP to complete activation.
• On successful activation a password will be sent to your registered mobile number.
