Free LPG Cylinder On Diwali : On the occasion of Diwali, governments in different states of the country including Uttar Pradesh are working on a plan to distribute free LPG cylinders. Yogi government has started distribution of free LPG cylinders to 1.86 crore families of the state. At the same time, the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand have also announced to distribute free LPG cylinders.

According to the information, free LPG gas cylinders will be distributed to all eligible women in Andhra Pradesh from October 31. The scheme of providing free LPG cylinders by the government in Uttarakhand has been extended till the year 2027. Actually, in most of the states of the country, the benefit of Free LPG Cylinder has been given to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). This scheme was started in the year 2016 and under this, 8 crore connections were released in September 2019. Subsequently, to cover the remaining poor households, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Phase-2 (PMUY 2.0) was launched in August 2021.
Under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Phase-2, 1.60 crore gas connections were issued till January 2023. This year in September 2023, the government approved the release of additional 75 lakh Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) connections. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have completed the release of these 75 lakh connections by July 8, 2024. There are 10.33 crore gas connections under the scheme by July 2024.
Let us tell you that compared to normal customers, beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) get Rs 300 cheaper cylinder. In March 2024, the central government had approved continuation of subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder till March 2025. The total expenditure for the financial year 2024-25 will be Rs 12,000 crore. The subsidy is transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.
