What to do if you make a wrong UPI payment
Take immediate action: Notify your bank within 3 days of making a wrong payment. This quick action is important for a fast resolution.
Check your notifications: Review any email or SMS messages related to the transaction. These will contain details about the amount deducted and can serve as evidence in your case.
Contact customer service: Immediately call your bank's customer service to report the mistake. Provide them with all the necessary details, including the transaction ID and the amount involved.
Follow up: If the problem is reported immediately, the money will be refunded to your account within 48 hours. If the funds are not refunded, visit your bank and file a written complaint.
Provide detailed information: When filing a written complaint, include your transaction ID, the amount sent, and your account details to facilitate investigation.
Involve RBI: If you are dissatisfied with the bank's response, you can escalate the issue by filing a complaint with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Wait for a response: After you submit your complaint, NPCI will review it and take appropriate action. You will receive an email with an update on your case.
