The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has significantly improved the speed of claim settlement by 30% in recent months. A major software upgrade has taken place in EPF processes. For months, there have been complaints that the claim settlement process is very slow. This poses a major problem for EPF subscribers who want to withdraw money immediately during financial crises. 

Faster processing with new software

A senior official said that EPFO ​​completed a software upgrade six weeks ago. Due to this the speed of processing of claims has increased. The number of claims processed during peak hours has now doubled compared to a few months ago. The EPFO ​​system is also expected to upgrade its hardware soon. This will further improve the speed of claim settlements.

The new software has been developed by the Advanced Computer Development Center (C-DAC), a part of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). It has been instrumental in addressing technical issues and rejection of claims without reason on EPFO 's digital platform.

EPFO Claim Rejection: Low rejection rates

In recent years, there has been a sharp increase in the rejection rate of claims, especially final PF claims. Rejections increased from 13% in 2017-18 to nearly 34% in 2022-23. The main reason for this is discrepancies between the data stored by the EPFO ​​and the information provided by the claimants. Also, there were technical issues with the IT infrastructure. However, since the software was upgraded, claim rejection rates have come down. Apart from this, the claim process is now very easy.

A new centralized database

The government is also working on creating a centralized database to manage the records of all EPF members at one place. This will ensure that even if an EPF member moves to a new location, his details are accessible in a central system. It will be helpful for everyone like EPFO, companies, subscribers. The new payment system is expected to be operational within the next two months.

Recently EPFO ​​relaxed some norms. This has further increased the convenience of PF members. EPFO has relaxed the mandatory requirement of uploading check image or attested bank pass for certain eligible claims. It speeds up online claim settlements. With these improvements, EPF subscribers with EPF Accounts have got a way to claim their claims more easily and quickly. This ensures that EPF members get the best experience in EPF operations.
