Have you linked a nominee to your savings bank account or fixed deposit account ? If not, do it soon. This will ensure that there is no problem in transferring money if the account holder dies. This process becomes very lengthy when after the death of the account holder, he faces a lot of difficulties in transferring the money deposited in the account to his spouse or children.
Apply if you don't have netbanking facility
If your bank account is with State Bank of India (SBI) and you have named a nominee in it, you should add a nominee as soon as possible. You can do this online. Netbanking facility is required for this. If you have not taken this facility yet, you can fill the form and submit it at your branch. This will launch your netbanking facility. Then you can easily add the nominee's name to your account.
This is how you can add the nominee's name through netbanking
1. Login to Onlinesbi.com using your User ID and Password .
2. Go to the 'Request and Inquiry' section in the menu.
3. Click on 'Online Referral' option.
4. Select the account for which you want to add a nominee. Then click Continue.
5. Enter the nominee's name, date of birth, address and relationship to the account holder.
6. Then submit the form.
7. Enter the high security password received on your mobile phone.
8. Finally click on 'Confirm' button.
Visit the branch and add the name of the nominee
If you do not use internet banking, you can do this by visiting a bank branch. You can download the application form from the bank's website . After filling the complete information, visit the bank branch and submit. A person can add or remove nominee name in his bank account at any time. Note that two people can be nominated in a joint locker account .
